Radish

Radish

Radish is widely used in Bangladeshi salads, mashes, and curries; Insaf sells one variety of radish.

Radish is a white root vegetable eaten both raw and cooked. It is a good source of vitamin C, and its high water content makes it a popular light food.

Radish is available in Bangladeshi markets nearly year-round, though the winter crop is the most prized for flavor.

Growing it in Bangladesh

Sowing time
Insaf's ISL-720 variety can be sown all year and is ready to harvest in just 35-40 days.
Weather & soil
Radish prefers loose, well-drained soil and plenty of sun; heavy or waterlogged soil can cause the roots to bend.
Care
  • Keep the soil loose and friable so roots can expand easily
  • Water lightly and regularly, but avoid letting water pool
  • Lift the roots once they reach market size — left too long in the field they risk turning tough or fibrous
